Popeye was a brave warrior who fought and lost his battle with canine Megaesophagus (ME). In his memory, we collect donations to help fund Bailey Chairs for pawrents of other ME pups. We are a nonprofit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) charity, EIN #39-2599811, and all donations to Popeye’s Paw are tax deductible!
About Popeye
Soon after adoption, Popeye was found with a mast cell tumor, but the surgery went well, and he was declared cured! For the next two years, he and daddy were inseparable, and Popeye lived a great life, especially when it snowed, which he loved frolicking in, and when he would snuggle with his daddy, a Marine Corps veteran who was often sick and bedridden with migraine disease.
But in December 2022, he began to exhibit symptoms of canine Megaesophagus (ME), a poorly-understood and often undiagnosed disease in veterinary medicine. He also contracted aspiration pneumonia, a frequent complication of ME. Despite getting constant medical care, multiple ER visits, tests, medications, and two hospital stays, Popeye succumbed to Megaesophagus on February 13, 2023, never having used his Bailey Chair, a device to hold ME doggies upright during and after feeding, to help them retain food and swallow easier.
His daddy donated Popeye’s Bailey Chair to another needy ME family, and he still grieves over losing his precious pup, but he wants the memory of his happy, sweet boy to live on. So, he and two friends founded Popeye’s Paw, to help ME pawrents afford Bailey Chairs for their pups.
